Types of Rubber Material
At Joda Rubber, we are not only experts in the properties and applications of various materials but also possess decades of experience in rubber compounding. This expertise and passion allow us to pay attention to every detail, ensuring that from design to the final product, every step meets the highest quality standards.
Whether you need automotive parts that can withstand high temperatures, industrial seals that maintain performance in harsh conditions, or custom rubber products for specific industries, we have a solution.
NR (Natural Rubber)
Natural rubber (NR), derived from the sap of the Pará Rubber Tree, is known for its strength and durability. It is commonly used in applications such as tubing, seals, and hoses due to its high rebound and resilience. While NR offers high tensile strength and flexibility, it is sensitive to heat and light. Despite these limitations, NR remains a preferred choice for various engineering applications, offering a wide range of hardness levels. However, it lacks resistance to oils and solvents and requires protection against oxidation, ozone, and heat.
IIR (Butyl Rubber)
Butyl rubber (IIR), or Isobutylene Isoprene Rubber, is a highly durable synthetic rubber resistant to gas, wear, weather, chemicals, and moisture. Widely used in electrical insulation and gas tanks, it boasts low gas permeability and excellent electrical properties. Despite its excellent resistance to various factors, including phosphate ester fluids and ozone, it has a lower high-temperature limit than EPDM, typically ranging from -55°C to +105°C. While offering superior air impermeability and resistance to abrasion and chemicals, Butyl Rubber shows poor resistance to gasoline and hydrocarbons.
SBR (Styrene-butadiene Rubber)
Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), another affordable and durable synthetic rubber, finds extensive use in tires and automotive parts due to its springy composition and corrosion resistance. While it offers excellent abrasion resistance, it lacks resistance to light, chemicals, and high-pressure moisture. SBR shares physical and chemical properties similar to NR when compounded with reinforcing fillers, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including vehicle tires. However, it is not suitable for springs and has a working temperature range typically between -50°C to +110°C.
CR (Neoprene, Chloroprene Rubber)
Neoprene (CR), also known as Chloroprene Rubber, is widely utilized for its versatility and resilience. It serves various purposes ranging from seals and hoses to automotive parts and footwear. Offering fire, tear, weather, and abrasion resistance, Neoprene is favored in consumer and industrial applications where exposure to oil is a concern. It boasts good aging characteristics in ozone and weather, along with resistance to abrasion and flex cracking. While it excels in gasoline resistance, it may not perform well in aromatic and oxygenated solvent environments. Neoprene operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +110°C, with short-term tolerance up to 120°C.
NBR (Nitrile, Nitrile-butadiene Rubber)
Nitrile (NBR), or Nitrile Butadiene Rubber, is a versatile sealing material known for its resistance to various fluids, including chemicals and oils. Its temperature tolerance ranges from -35°C to +120°C (-30°F to +250°F). Widely used in seals, it offers good tear and abrasion resistance, although it fares poorly against ozone and sunlight. Blending with other materials like CR, Hypalon, or PVC allows NBR to meet specific requirements.
Q / VMQ (Silicone)
Silicone, a versatile elastomer composed of silicone polymer, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, boasts remarkable stability and resilience across a wide temperature range (-67°F to 572°F). Widely utilized across industries, it finds applications in voltage line insulators, automotive parts, kitchenware, electronics, medical devices, and sealants. While offering good resistance to extreme conditions, silicone exhibits moderate physical properties and electrical resistance.
EPDM / EPM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), known as EPM or EPDM, is a versatile synthetic rubber. Resistant to extreme temperatures, it's commonly used in automotive parts, electrical wiring, and outdoor applications. EPDM offers excellent resistance to heat, water, steam, and various chemicals. While it's ideal for hydraulic systems and pump seals, it's not suitable for use with gasoline or petroleum-based substances.
FKM (Viton, Fluoro Rubber)
Viton (FKM), is a robust synthetic rubber with exceptional durability. Widely used in seals, O-rings, and gaskets, FKM offers superior resistance to high temperatures, harsh chemicals, and ozone. With variants for specific applications, it's favored in aerospace, automotive, and industrial sectors. Though costly, FKM's reliability in extreme conditions makes it indispensable despite its high price tag.
